Understanding Your Insurance Estimate

At Bright Light Imaging, our policy is to collect your estimated out-of-pocket cost (OOP) at the time of service. This helps us provide a transparent and efficient billing experience while minimizing unexpected costs after your visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an “estimated out-of-pocket cost”?

  • This is the amount you would need to pay based on your insurance plan.
  • It can include your deductible, copay, or coinsurance.
  • We calculate this using the most current information from your insurance.

If my exam is “covered by insurance,” why do I still have a cost?

  • “Covered” means the service is eligible under your insurance plan—not that it is free.
  • Insurance plans require patients to pay their portion, even for covered services. This policy is set by your insurance company.

What happens if the estimate is different from my final bill?

After your insurance processes the claim:

  • If your estimated payment was more than required, you will receive a refund
  • If your insurance determines you owe more than estimated, you will receive a bill for the remaining balance

Why do you collect payment at the time of service?

Collecting your estimated balance upfront:

  • Helps avoid unexpected bills later
  • Gives you clear cost expectations before your visit
  • Reduces billing delays and follow-up statements

Will I have to pay this cost anywhere I go?

  • Yes. Regardless of where you receive imaging services, you are responsible for your insurance plan’s out-of-pocket costs.

However, facility pricing varies significantly. As an outpatient imaging center, Bright Light Imaging is more affordable than hospital-based facilities. If you have questions about your estimate, our team is happy to help.
